The Science of Value

Transparency is the core of PriceIndexLab. We analyze over 100,000+ data points to build mathematical models for various product categories.

1. Core Value Indices

We go beyond the price tag by evaluating a product's relative position within its brand and the broader market:

Brand Value Index (BVI)

Formula: Product Price / Avg. Price of Category within Brand

Measures pricing within the brand's own ecosystem. An index < 1.0 indicates a "Value Pick" for that specific brand.

Market Alpha Index (MAI)

Formula: Product Price / Market Avg. Price for Category

A cross-brand comparison that reveals the true competitive value of the product in the global luxury and lifestyle market.

2. Lifestyle & Luxury Model

For fashion and accessories, value is driven by material integrity, craftsmanship complexity, and brand resale performance.

Value Score = (Material Quality × 45%) + (Brand Premium × 30%) + (Craftsmanship × 20%) + (Trend Factor × 5%)

Weight Distribution

Dimension Weight Description
Material Quality 45% Raw material costs (e.g., 100% Cashmere, Full-grain leather).
Brand Premium 30% Market prestige and secondary market value retention.
Craftsmanship 20% Origin of production (e.g., Italy/Japan) and manual labor intensity.
Trend Factor 5% Current season demand vs. timelessness of the design.

3. Tech & Hardware Model

Price Index = Market Price / (Performance Score × Spec Multiplier)

For electronics, value is driven by raw hardware specifications: processing power, display quality, and durability metrics.
